Meet Our Club Ambassador
Our new Club Ambassador Sue Smith of Rainhill is now our very own Ambassador of Rainhill United JFC.

I started playing football when I was 5 years old, for my local boys team Rainhill United. Albert Fellowes who was the manager then, gave me the opportunity to play as there were no girls teams around then ! So I continued to play with the boys until I was 10 years old, which certainly helped my future career ! Albert, always believed in me and said I’d be the first female to represent England from Rainhill United. So when I did I gave him my first England shirt, as a thank you, for giving me an opportunity to play when others wouldn’t have !
From then I went on to play for St Helens girls, there I was scouted for Tranmere. Thankfully my mum and dad have always supported me and were used to taking me to training, twice a week after working a full day and then games of a weekend. Without their support and guidance I’d have never been able to continue my love for playing football ! At 16 I was scouted for England, I played for the U18’s, before making my debut for the seniors aged 17 against Germany at Preston North End. I was still in school so it was strange coming back into Rainhill High school after representing my country ! I made 94 appearances for my country and I cherish every one, it was always my dream to play for my country ! Playing in European Championships and World Cups, are certainly some of my highlights ! My greatest achievement though was representing England in the All Stars. They selected one player from each country to play against USA, to promote the World Cup and I was selected from England! Playing amongst some of the best players in the world and against one of best teams in the world in the US, was something I learnt a lot from. Walking out in front of a packed crowd knowing I was representing England in this game, was an absolute honour ! I picked up some individual awards along the way two players player awards and international player of the year twice, which means a lot to me!
From Tranmere I went on to play for Leeds, winning the League Cup and getting to a few FA Cup Finals! Then I went onto Lincoln in the WSL, before finishing my playing career at Doncaster Belles, a team I’d always wanted to play for, because of the history it holds! When I finished playing, I always knew I wanted to stay in the game in some capacity, because I love it and media has always been my other passion! I’ve been really lucky I’ve worked for BBC and Sky, for a number of years covering Premier League EFL and WSL! I love being part of the panel on Soccer Saturday, it’s a really good team and we all get on so well. I am also the co- commentator on the Football Game EA Sports and I’ve been on FC23, FC24 and I am currently recording this years. I’ve had so much enjoyment out of football over the years, anyone that wants to play at any level I’d encourage them to do it ! I’d always say in whatever you do, work hard, listen to people that want to help you, always stay positive and believe in yourself! I’m so proud to be a part of the club again, I hope it will encourage more boys and especially girls to join our club!
